I really can't understand the culture of "il bash mohandes o il doctor" we have here in Jordan, this something you usually find when you meet people who hold such titles...
A colleague at the university I studied at and before the end of the final semester he put his name on MSN messenger as Eng. whoever. Does it really matter to show it this much? like were you studying for yourself or to prove you are better than others?!
That day I took my sister's new car for the first maintenance check, the employee came suggested to take a look at the car before he takes the keys (in case anything is lost or sth, he records all that) anyway... After a little bit talking about the usuals, is it ok if we delayed the visit this much? the weather today is so cold! stuff like that. Taking the keys I remembered I wasn't properly introduced to him I was like "bs ma it3arrafet 3ala 7adretak" he quickly went like "il mohandes amjad whatever". I don't know why this made me like pause for a little, this little time was lots more to me. I always can sense people tones watch their movements while I'm talking or them talking in an excellent way which is something I like most of the times but sometimes I don't. This helped make that period longer in a way. Here I was thinking should I say il mohandes waleed?! its like I decided not to introduce myself never this way unless it was of a huge need, was it worth it this time?
I went like waleed khamis, nice to meet you.
Even my dad loves to introduce me to some of his friends just to mention "ebne il mohandes" its like I really can't stand it and just want to disappear from there.
I believe titles are held for the benefit of their owners. Not to show off or abuse it with lots of mentioning.

6 person(s) cared about this!:
my colleague (female) in the work puts her title between braces! and in red color!
i.e: tizi 5ara (Ms)
the fact, shes spreading attention to all people that shes available knowing that shes thirty somthing years old!
also my friend used to put Eng. next to his name while studying at the university, but the fact here is that Drs and Labs are always calling them Eng. potato or something so they believe such lie!
for others, have you ever heard about "Social Hypocrisy"? try to practice.. :P
P.S: i think the "mohantes salame el wew" you met in the garage is the HONDA guy i used to fix my ex-accord with. hes truely sick man, and also waaaaaaaaaaaaay expensive just becsue he got the experience from honda dealer.. you know they are rare :) and you cant find a mechanic (sorry, mohantes!) for your car..
off-topic: for me i got rid of such mechanics especially after experiencing OLE-Jordan bureaucracy.. try to buy from bently publishers then you will learn how to DIY (do it yourself) and then we can call you "Mohantes 2ad el denia.. bas ya 5sara el denya wastat!)
hey 3mr thanks for the nice thorough reply...
I am impressed about that female colleague, she needs some attention give her some ;)! hehe
the guy I was talking about is at wakalet kia , u find lots of sick people at where cars are fixed...
social hypocrisy is something to some level I do believe in, not cause I'm a fan but cause it works like magic in here. But this doesn't have to do with it really. Mostly its a show off thingie!
mmmm... i studied banks management and i earn a good salary ,, what do u think i should title myself ??;) hehe ya3ny el mohandeseen wel dacatra a7san mnny ?!!! :)
nooo they aren't sure :D!
o ana ba7ke laih il connexion bateee2 lol
I really hate this phenomena. Everybody wants to show off, and all for nothing.
It doesn't stop at "Eng." and "Dr." and "absar shoo.". People still do it with their cars here in Amman, they have to get the 4 digit license plate and all that other stupid stuff.
Yes I agree za3tar ... its there and you easily can sense it.
Its nice to be rich and be like mrattab bs without showing off :S!
Thanks for coming :)
